Art & Health
The artworks currently on display at ARTUS Health Centre are on loan from the estate of Mr. Frank Schmidt. His interest in colour, texture and feeling is evident in his vast collection on display in the lobby and exam rooms at ARTUS Health Centre.
Frank Schmidt was a naturalized Canadian born in Neu-Isenburg, Germany in 1927. He was the youngest born into a very business minded household that encouraged independence and self sufficiency. At a very tender age, he experienced circumstances as a prisoner of war that left him with indelible impressions that eventually found their expression on canvas. Here he annotated emotions as well as his personal philosophy around life and mankind.
His work is largely impressionistic. He worked with many mediums, settling on a painting in acrylic mostly. He has incorporated influences of old Masters and contemporary artists alike to create his own unique style that captures his perspective of the human condition.
The intensity of emotion is evidenced in every piece of art he has produced. He has communicated over a span of 60 years through his artwork, taking us on a visual journey through colour, form and medium as he explored to make sense of what was, what is and what is to come. His brush was last put to canvas in the fall of 2008 and was laid to rest by his sudden passing in March of 2009. His legacy, his artwork, remains for all of us to enjoy.
